Chaos Space Marines care not for hierarchies and ranks but instead follow someone powerful, charismatic, strong of will, and demonstrates support of the Chaos Gods, that person is the Chaos Lord.
Chaos Lords are the greatest among Chaos Gods’ favored Champions of Chaos and possess the strength and vision to lead the men of Chaos into battle. Not only are Chaos Lords talented in the battlefield, they are usually rewarded with gifts of power, artifacts, and physical mutation.
